The film, directed by Wes Anderson, tells the story of a Junior Stargazer convention that is interrupted by life-altering events. Joining Scarlett in Asteroid City are her co-stars Jason Schwartzman, Margot Robbie, and Tom Hanks. Scarlett and Colin have been happily married for three years and have a son named Cosmo Jost together. In addition, Scarlett also has an eight-year-old daughter named Rose Dorothy, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Romain Dauriac, a French journalist. Earlier this year, Scarlett revealed in an honest interview that she once contemplated giving up acting after losing a coveted role to Sandra Bullock. She spoke candidly about the feelings of inadequacy she experienced after being rejected for major roles she had auditioned for. Even after missing the opportunity to portray Black Widow, a role initially offered to Emily Blunt, Scarlett felt a profound sense of hopelessness when she was overlooked for a part in Gravity.

However, it was Sandra Bullock, aged 58, who ultimately secured the role in the 2013 sci-fi film alongside George Clooney, aged 62. Sandra’s performance garnered her nominations for Best Actress at prestigious award shows such as the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, and BAFTAs.
Scarlett revealed that the rejection from the casting process for that particular film was a significant blow to her. The experience made her question her future in the film industry. Expressing her frustration, she spoke to Variety, saying, “I was turned down for two roles – the first one was Iron Man 2, and then the other one was Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity. I had wanted that role so much. It was sort of the final straw that made me reconsider. I felt incredibly frustrated and hopeless. I began to question if I was pursuing the right career.”
Furthermore, the actress pondered the roles she was actually offered, questioning their fulfillment. Despite her success in the breakout film Lost In Translation, Scarlett felt pigeonholed as a bombshell and found it challenging to escape that image and change the narrative surrounding her. She reflected, “The work I was being offered felt deeply unsatisfying. It seemed like I was offered every Marilyn Monroe script ever written. I started to wonder if this was the end of my creative journey.”
However, Scarlett’s luck soon changed when Emily Blunt had to withdraw from Iron Man 2 due to contractual obligations with Fox. As a result, Scarlett was given the opportunity to reclaim the role in the Marvel movie. Although her part in the film was not extensive, it opened doors for future opportunities.
Reflecting on this experience, she shared, “That movie wasn’t going to significantly impact how my character was written, but there was a potential for what it could become – potential for growth in subsequent films.”
