Disney is currently in the process of creating more live-action adaptations of their classic films. One such film is ‘The Little Mermaid’ which has recently finished filming with Halle Bailey portraying the lead role. Interestingly, Gal Gadot, famously known for her portrayal of Wonder Woman, will be playing the Evil Queen in Disney’s upcoming live-action version of ‘Snow White.’ While the movie’s production won’t begin until 2022, the cast has already been announced, with Rachel Zegler from ‘West Side Story’ taking on the role of Snow White. The original animated film from 1937 showcased the Evil Queen’s jealousy towards Snow White’s beauty and featured the iconic line, “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?”
Since 2016, the project has been in pre-production and Disney executives have been closely following the 36-year-old actress who has been busy with various film projects, such as the highly anticipated ‘Wonder Woman 3’ where she will be starring alongside the original heroine Lynda Carter.
According to reports, Gadot has expressed her desire to portray the iconic character, viewing it as a chance to exhibit a new aspect of her acting abilities. She joins a list of Hollywood luminaries who have taken on the role of Disney antagonists, such as Angelina Jolie in ‘Maleficent’ and Cate Blanchett in ‘Cinderella.’
Disney is in the midst of producing several more live-action remakes, including ‘The Little Mermaid’ featuring Halle Bailey, which has just wrapped filming. Additionally, ‘Pinocchio’ starring Tom Hanks and ‘Lilo and Stitch’ are both in the works.
‘Snow White’ has also been announced, with Marc Platt serving as producer and Marc Webb, known for his work on ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and ‘500 Days of Summer,’ set to direct.
